On Dec. 5, 2018 an experiment on pedestrian tracking with stereo cameras was carried out to provide high-density data for a doctoral project. For this purpose, three stereo camera systems were set up around a busy intersection with high pedestrian traffic and additionally a stationary 3D laser scanner for reference measurements.
For this purpose, the data logging infrastructure developed for the first Mapathon could be reused. At the same time, the time synchronisation solution from the first Mapathon was further developed and was used here for time synchronisation of the four spatially distributed sensors. In this experiment, too, extras were used as additional pedestrians who simulated previously planned sequences/constellations. Each extra was additionally equipped with a low-cost GPS tracker.
Over 1 h net duration of the experiment 600 GB raw data were generated.
